Fun Facts: Sandy Bridge

The 2nd Generation Intel Core processor family represents the biggest advance in computing performance and capabilities over any other previous generation. Below are some facts about the chip.

  • If a processor were a country and its transistor count was a country's population, a 2nd Generation Intel Core processor would be the third most popular country in the world (995 million+) just behind China and India.
  • There are close to one billion transistors inside a 2nd Generation Intel Core processor. If a car were to have one billion parts - compared to the 30,000 they currently have - it would take them most productive car manufacturer 114 years to assemble car.
  • A 2nd Generation Intel Core processor contains more transistors (540 million) than the number of registered cars in the European Union, the U.S. and the Asia Pacific region combined.

  • If every home in the U.S. had 30 light switches it would take the new chips about one nanosecond to turn all 3.57 billion light switches in the housing units in the U.S.
  • A 32nm transistor found in the new chips can switch on and off more than 300 billion times in one second. It would take you 4,000 years to flick a light switch off the many times.
  • If you equate the power consumption of a laptop based on the 2nd Generation Intel Core processors to electric clothing dryer, drying one load of clothes for 60 minutes is equivalent to running a laptop for 147 hours or 6 days and 2.4 hour. If you compare the processor to an electric oven, baking a pizza for 45 minutes at 350 degrees F is equivalent to running 67 laptops for 50 hours.
  • The Intel Core processor is printed on very pure silicon, which is refined from common beach sand. So the sand you once stepped on at the beach may be powering your notebook today.

  • If you were to take the performance boost enabled by Intel Turbo Boost to graphics-intensive applications and apply it to a Boeing 767 airplane, the plane could travel 50 percent faster. This means a flight that usually lasts one hour would take only 40 minutes.
  • If you were to take the performance boost from the 2nd Generation Intel Core processor over the previous Intel Core Processor and apply it to a Boeing 767 airplane, the plane could travel two times faster. This means a flight that usually lasts two hours would take only 60 minutes.
  • If you applied new Intel Turbo Boost Technology to your daily activities, you could accomplish more in less time, giving you up to four hours back of you day, time that was previously spent waiting for your technology.
  • Integrating processing cores, memory controller and graphics systems on the same 32nm die joins a list of other disruptive technology "marriages" such as"-Cell Phones + Wireless Internet Access-Cloud Computing  Always-On Devices-Blogs + Google Ads-MP3 + NapsterYoutube + Flip Cams-Internet + TV
  • Compared to previous generations, content creation is up to 42 percent faster and gaming up to 50 percent faster with the 2nd Generation Intel Core processors.
  • The 2nd Generation Intel Core processor family is viewed by analysts as one of Intel's most important product cycles ever.

Intel Core Processors: Not Just Faster. Smarter

Did you know? The Processor or Central Processing Unit (CPU) is the most important part of a computer? It is because it controls everything what a computer / laptop / net book does. Let's talk about processors and the best one yet in the market.

The CPU is the brain of the computer. It is very significant that is why its specifications is one of the considerations a person must pay attention in buying gadgets that needs its presence.

Today, CPUs need to 'think' faster to match the multi-tasking habits of their users. From photo editing to picture uploading; from music downloading to video conversion; from social networking to pc gaming, etc. there is a big need for 2-3 year-old pcs to change.

New pc usages drive high performance pc needs- the ultimate reason why Intel introduced a new family of processors: Intel Core.

Aging pcs unfit today's usages- that is one big fact. With the product line of Intel launched last January of this year, who would have the chance to make a cup of coffee (that takes 5 minutes) while waiting for your computer to load?

There is always one perfect desktop or laptop pc for someone and to know what this is, you have to know who you are. Likewise in purchasing a processor. In choosing one, your decision should to be based on your needs and how you intend to use it. Friends, I re-introduce you to the breed that will lead:

Core i3 - Perfect for simple uses of computers such as watching videos, listening to music, and play games at the highest possible quality. This is the first type of the Core family.
Core i5 - Say goodbye to freezing even when you're doing multi-tasking at top speed. This second type of the Core family fits to bloggers and frequent computer users.
Core i7 - this third type of the Core family is best for techy people. It automatically speeds up when its users need extra performance.

It is vital that you invest in the best processor you can afford when shopping for your new computer because upgrading an old one is expensive and needs expertise. Choose Intel for it is smart.

Intel Core is smart because:
Core Strengths
  • Intel Optimal Performance and Energy Efficiency
  • Intel is a multi-tasking monster
  • Intel Core Processors have Intel HD Graphics
Core Technologies
  • Intel Turbo Boost Technology
  • Hyper-Threading Technology
  • 32 Nanometer Technology
Remember, only computers with the most powerful processors can make full use of energy and computer speed- therefore making yourself unproductive, productive or very productive.

Get yourself out of the old fashioned way of using outdated processors. Don't waste minutes, perhaps, hours of waiting. Use the fastest and smartest processor in the planet be be productive as you can be. Buy an Intel Core Processor now!

Jewelmer : Experiencing the Luster in Cebu

Jewelmer's Luster for Life: A pearl exhibit opened in Ayala Center Cebu last July 23. Located at the Rotunda, 1st Level Activity Center of the popular shopping destination, this modular exhibition is a visual tour of the golden South Sea pearl’s journey from farm to fine jewelry and is part of the company calls the “Jewelmer Experience”.

The Luster for Life exhibit is composed of six main panels: Palawan South Sea pearls, Luster for Life, The Miracle of the Rare Golden Pearl, European Elegance, An Environmental Gem, and A Nation’s Pride Each segment features a combination of vivid imagery and descriptive text. Also included in the exhibit are the actual tools used for pearl cultivation, a pearl diorama, and some unique pieces that are part of Jewelmer’s fine jewelry collections.

Luster for Life
When women wear pearls, it is she who glows. Pearls have the unique ability to enhance the beauty of its wearer, rather than call attention to itself. This is because of its luster, or the warm glow of the gem.

The luster is described as the pearl’s outer sheen and surface brilliance and is created when light passes through thousands of layer of nacre, the substance that makes up a pearl. Jewelmer’s South Sea pearls possess thick, translucent layers of natural nacre that gives their pearls a unique luster that the company has come to be known for.

The Miracle of the Rare Golden Pearl
Jewelmer is the only pearl producer in the world that has successfully produced pearls with a rich, natural golden color. Through decades of research and biotechnology, Jewelmer was able to perfect the breeding process that produces gold-lipped Pinctada maxima pearl oysters capable of growing large, lustrous, golden pearls. This deep, rich color can only be found in South Sea pearls produced in the Philippines.

European Elegance
The design process is the ultimate exercise in creativity. It can proceed both ways, with designers beginning with a piece in mind to adorn with selected pearls, or starting from the pearl itself and creating a design around it.

Inspired by nature, each piece is a product of east and west working together on such a delightful material, pearl lovers are bound to be always surprised. A team of Italian, French, and Filipino artists draws inspiration from a multitude of sources and creates exquisite designs that enhance the beauty of each pearl. These designs are then executed by highly-skilled Swiss and Filipino goldsmiths and artisans.

Exclusive to the Cebu leg of the exhibit are three South Sea pearl collector pieces: a baroque pearl strand necklace and an eagle brooch. The strand necklace is composed of 49 large, natural silvery-blue baroque South Sea pearls set with 18-karat white gold, while an irregularly shaped, large baroque South Sea pearl inspires the body of an bejeweled eagle made of gold and diamonds. Both of these one-of-a-kind pieces were part of a recently concluded international pearl exhibition held in Qatar, UAE.

An Environmental Gem
A lustrous South Sea pearl is the reflection of the health and beauty of the environment where it was cultivated.

Jewelmer Pearls are symbol of environmental conservation. A lustrous South Sea pearl cannot be created in polluted waters and dead marine ecosystems. In the face of globally dwindling natural resources, Philippine pearl farmers give back to Mother Nature and become stewards of marine life.
Thus, Jewelmer is committed to a unique kind of pearl farming: a non-extractive, environmentally sound process, which ensures that nature remains protected and unexploited.

A Nation’s Pride
The pearl is the Philippine’s national gem, the best representative of a land rich in natural resources as well as people with smiles as warm and welcoming as a golden pearl.
Jewelmer continues to share the spirit of the Philippines through the warm, lustrous glow of the South Sea pearl: a true living gem and the pride of a nation.

Watch out for the The Luster for Life: A pearl exhibit in TriNoma, Quezon City later this month, at Alabang Town Center, and at Greenbelt 5 at the heart of Makati later this year.
